Subject Links
There is a seemingly unlimited wealth of information available on
the Internet these days that could be incorporated into a child's education. As
I explore more, I will add personal links that my family has found interesting
and useful. Until then, let me direct you to a few excellent sites
that have information indexed by subject:

- A categorized web center of over 15,000 research-quality educational sites
designed to help students and teachers quickly identify and access useful
information on the internet. This site is loaded! Check it out all it offers or
go right to the subject index.

- Nicely arranged and easy to navigate.

- Pick a typical "classroom" and get a healthy list of links.

- Complete art curriculum focuses on providing materials that use art to
reinforce core subjects through hands on activities.
GEOGRAPHY
- Maps
of National Historic & Military Parks, Memorials, and Battlefields
- This is an excellent site. Be patient while maps load. It's worth the wait.
- Hotlist: Geography
- Lots of geography specific links. A great list.
- Odyssey in Egypt
- This is the coolest interactive educational site I have seen yet! Middle
school students dig Ancient Egypt via the Internet in a 10-week course.
- E-Conflict, World Encyclopedia
and Simulation
- Profiles of every nation and province of the world. You can look at maps
and flags or listen to national anthems. There is also a monthly quiz . You're
sure to learn something new here!

This is not a "kids' site" but it is absolutely full of geography.

- Live expeditions all over the world. Students interact with GlobaLearn's
remote expedition teams via their WWW site. Fun to be a part of something "live."
- HomeSchoolArts
- HomeSchoolArts.com is a free visual arts lesson site. Dedicated to teaching
the visual arts to all who would be interested.
ECONOMICS
- Economic Activities
for Grades K-8
- Three economic activities/contests for grades K-2, 3-5, and 6-8. New
activities will be posted each month. Nice.
HISTORY
- The Smithsonian Institution Home
Page
- No study of history can be complete without including a trip to the
Smithsonian.
- American Memory from
the Library of Congress
- This site consists of primary source and archival materials relating to
American culture and history. It includes prints & photos, documents, motion
pictures, and sound recordings. There is a search guide, activities, and an
educator's page. Nice! Be sure and check out the
Civil War Timeline!
- Dead
Sea Scrolls
- If you are interested in the Dead Sea Scrolls, check this out.
- Henry Ford Museum & Greenfield
Village Online
- Information on visiting the museum but also online histories, too, such as
on the Wright brothers, Thomas Edison, and of course, Henry Ford. And don't
forget to take a visit to the General Store, where you can pretend to be one (or
all) of seven real people who lived in Waterford in 1886, and discover what
items they might have purchased

- A huge list of museums around the world (and not just history museums)
- Odyssey in Egypt
- This is the coolest interactive educational site I have seen yet! Middle

There is a special section with articles of interest to parents, including book

- Photos, animations, and explanations into the area of microbiology as it

- Sea World/Busch Gardens
- Lots of animal information, including pictures. There is also a good
section with teachers' guides.
- Grandad's
Animal Book Contents
- This interactive book has a poem and a picture for each of the letters of
the English alphabet. There is a multiple choice quiz, a word list, and a
self-test on the material. There are 2 sections: for K-3 and 4-6. Nice!
- National Wildlife
Federation -- Education, Teacher Resource
- Subjects are divided into five major topic areas: Air, Habitat, People and
the Environment, Wildlife and Endangered Species, and Water. Each section
includes an introduction, general background information, fun facts, things you
can do to help, a glossary of terms and classroom activities
- Electronic Zoo
- An index of animal sites and information. Not all kid stuff. Lots of great
resource information for the novice to the expert, but written for adults, not
kids
- The Birmingham Zoo
- This is a most excellent site, complete with pictures, movies, animal
information, a safari, a search, and "ask the zoo keeper." If you like
animals, visit here! Lots of animal links, too.
- Netfrog Title Page
- Can you believe disecting a frog online? Check this out!

- The X-Nilo Site
- Science videos to order. X-Nilo's primary purpose is to educate children
about science and the Bible and was designed to compete against secular
children's science programs such as "Bill Nye the Science Guy" and "Beakman's
World," offering a Biblical perspective to science. Check it out!

- This is one of the best curriculum resource pages I have seen. It contains
information on curriculum, books, 800 numbers, support groups and organizations,
on-line Ezines, college and financial aid, software, and newsgroups, lists, and
digests.

History Unit Study for homeschoolers!!
- From a homeschooling family. Check it out (along with the rest of their
page). They've put in a lot of work. (There is also Little House unit study.)
- AskERIC
- Ask ERIC is an Internet-based education information service of the ERIC
System. Lots of curriculum possibilities here.

- A republished 1913 spelling book, recommended by Kathy Duffy.

Noteworthy Sites
The following sites may not be "educational" sites, but they
are educational and worth a visit.
- SAPE
(formerly called "The Soviet-American Penfriend Exchange")
- SAPE matches people -- aged 8 to 80 -- from all over the world with postal
mail (not email) penpals in the former Soviet Union and Baltic nations.
- Headbone Derby
- A free research game for 4th-8th graders (though both younger and older
kids have played it with great success). The Derby teaches not only Internet
literacy and fundamental research skills, but also reading comprehension.
